Abstract

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental condition that manifests in childhood, characterized by symptoms such as repetitive behaviors and social difficulties. The severity of symptoms varies among individuals, affecting social interaction and support needs. A common feature is food selectivity, which can disrupt the gut microbiota, leading to abdominal discomfort and exacerbating some ASD symptoms. Thus, the present article aimed to investigate how diet can influence the treatment of symptoms in children and adolescents with ASD, with a focus on improving quality of life through appropriate nutritional management. To achieve this, an analysis of articles published in scientific databases over the past eight years was conducted, resulting in the selection of eight final studies. The findings revealed that dietary interventions, such as restrictive diets, can improve symptoms and gut health in individuals with ASD, highlighting the importance of a balanced nutritional approach
