Abstract

The genotoxic effects on ovarian tissues of Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) microplus mites, a tick that preferentially infests cattle in order to improve knowledge to adapt to the sterile insect technique as a means of population control of this parasite, were evaluated. Pre-laying blood engorged females were irradiated at doses of 0, 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 Gy with Cobalt-60 and within 24 hours were dissected and their ovaries formed a pool sample with which it was performed. comet testing and inferred genotoxicity in these tissues was proportional to the increase in ionizing doses.
