Abstract

Stomatherapy is a nursing specialty focused on the care of patients with ostomies and chronic wounds, adopting a comprehensive, individualized, and humanized approach. Objective: To identify, in the literature, the importance of the stomatherapy nurse in the care of patients with ostomies and chronic wounds in primary care.

Methodology: This is an integrative literature review conducted between February and May 2025. The following steps were carried out: theme definition, formulation of the guiding question, and establishment of inclusion and exclusion criteria. The search was performed in the Virtual Health Library (VHL), applying filters for studies published in Portuguese over the last five years, resulting in 16 articles included in the analysis.  Results: Specialized nursing ensures continuous, effective, and humanized care, especially for patients with specific needs. Key actions include promoting self-care, developing individualized care plans, selecting appropriate supplies and dressings, and ensuring a suitable environment for wound healing. Conclusion: The role of the stomatherapy nurse is essential in prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation, promoting patient autonomy, family involvement, and social reintegration. The findings highlight the need for investment in stomatherapy and in the training of specialized professionals.
