Abstract

Pelvic floor physical therapy is an essential area of women's health, acting in physical and functional preparation during pregnancy, labor, and the postpartum period, aiming to promote well-being, prevent dysfunctions, and favor postpartum recovery. This study aimed to evaluate the perception of pregnant and postpartum women in the municipality of Mogi Guaçu regarding the role of physiotherapy during pregnancy. This is a descriptive study with a quantitative approach, carried out through the application of an online questionnaire about adherence to prenatal care, chosen delivery method, and preparation for labor. Fourteen women participated in the research, of whom 50% reported having some knowledge about the role of physiotherapy in this area, but 100% did not receive professional assistance during childbirth. A deficit of knowledge about pelvic floor physiotherapy and its relevance during the gestational and parturitional process was observed. Although all participants had prenatal care, none received a physiotherapy indication or prescription. It is concluded that there are gaps in the provision of pelvic floor physiotherapy, especially in the public health system, reinforcing the need to expand access and awareness of this practice in order to guarantee comprehensive and humanized healthcare for women.
